Mr. Gourlay is the President and Founder of the Maryland-Asia Environmental Partnership (MD-AEP), a dynamic private sector trade group focusing on developing
US-Asia partnerships to address the region’s pressing needs for water, energy and climate change expertise.
Since the founding of MD-AEP in 2008, Mr. Gourlay has sought out the silos of expertise from Maryland-based business, government, academic and non-profit organizations to join MD-AEP’s Energy and Environmental Leadership Network. Through this ground-breaking effort, he has built both a dynamic and credible platform where over 500 top science, research and technology organizations trust MD-AEP to facilitate connections and create opportunities between the U.S. and the countries of Asia for their water, energy and climate change business aspirations.
Mr. Gourlay has the richness of nearly 20 years of international business experience working in Asia. He has served in senior positions with both private and public international organizations including the U.S. Agency for International Development, CNA Insurance Companies, the World Trade Center Institute, The Johns Hopkins University and the US-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP).
At US-AEP, Mr. Gourlay was a key director for a $100 million U.S. Presidential initiative which leveraged over 25 U.S. government agencies to address environmental concerns in Asia. He established US-AEP’s business offices in Singapore and throughout East Asia and India. His strategic efforts helped U.S. business realize over $730 million in clean technology transactions.
Mr. Gourlay serves as an official delegate for the U.S. to the Vietnam-U.S. Working Group on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. He also serves on several boards including the Regional Manufacturing Institute where he has played a key role in Maryland green manufacturing initiative; the Baltimore-Xiamen Sister City Committee and the Maryland-Anhui Sister State Committee.
He has been a frequent keynote speaker across the globe, from the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles to the Rotary Club of Jakarta, Indonesia. Mr. Gourlay is also freelance international business columnist contributing to Manufacturing Today, U.S. Business Review, Venture Magazine, Pollution Engineering and the Corporate Responsibility Institute.
