Michael Galiazzo

Michael Galiazzo serves as the Executive Director of the Regional Manufacturing Institute (RMI) and former State Manufacturing Coordinator, Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Dr. Galiazzo’s work focuses on work force development systems involving interactive alliances. He currently serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board to the Technology and Innovation in Manufacturing Education (TIME) Center, an NSF funded initiative through the Community College of Baltimore County and the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Manufacturing Competitiveness. In the mid 70’s, as director of admissions and later as director of retraining and community development at Dundalk Community College, he initiated efforts, with local and state government leaders to create Maryland’s first retraining program for dislocated workers and he worked to change state policies get dislocated workers training without loss of benefits.
Following that pioneering effort, Dr. Galiazzo developed a variety of successful work force training and education programs involving private and public sector alliances. These included, Accelerated Learning Programs for Dislocated Workers (State Department of Employment Security Award), Regional Conference for the Unemployed (State Board for Community Colleges Award), UAW/GM Literacy Program (Governor’s Award), UAW on Financial Planning (selected as national prototype), Center for Port-related Industries (National Alliance of Business case study for workforce), Vice President Gore’s Hammer Award, Port-Wide Total Quality, Vital Links Award, Steamship Trades Association of Baltimore, US Navy customized classes, Maryland National Guard training, and on-site business training. He has served on local, state and national work force committees and presented papers on innovations in training at regional and national conferences.
Doctor Galiazzo has a PHD in Philosophy, Education Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, Master of Science, Applied Behavioral Science, The Johns Hopkins University, 1983; Hopkins Fellow, Community and Organizational Systems, The Johns Hopkins University, 1980; Bachelor of Arts, Human Services Administration, Antioch University, 1978.
President Bush appointed Dr. Galiazzo to the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars in 2002, and he continues in that role today.
